Summer 2020 Baseball

American Legion has been the baseball summer platform in Idaho for many years, but American Legion is NOT an option for our baseball players or programs this coming summer as the national Legion organization has cancelled the season. A collaborative efforts by a majority of the 5A SIC Head Baseball Coaches led to a plan that is realistic and a great place to start for members of our league. All Idaho State guidelines will be followed through each phase of the summer reintroduction program.

A group of coaches have developed a 5A High School Baseball Summer League (June 27 – July 30).  There will be no traveling and that we are to only play against local opponents.

Each high school in the SIC that will compete at the 5A in 2020-2021 will have this opportunity.

Each program would practice and play at their respective high school facility.  We will sign required waivers in hopes of being covered by district insurance policies.

Each program in this summer league is encouraged to produce 3 teams: Varsity, JV, Freshmen.  It is understood that the number of participants can vary from school to school.

No returning college players are allowed (American Legion allowed this if age requirement was met).

All NFHS rules and regulations will be followed.

The home team provides baseballs and pays umpire fees.

Fans allowed to watch games (practicing social distancing).  No admission or gate fees will be charged.  No concession stands at any of the sites will be open.

5A Summer League Games will be played on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  The minimum requirement is to play 12 league games on these dates:

Week 1 – June 30, July 1, 2

Week 2 – July 7, 8, 9

Week 3 – July 14, 15, 16

Week 4 – July 21, 22, 23

Programs looking for additional games can schedule local opponents outside of the days dedicated to league play.  It is projected that most teams will play 16 – 20 games between June 27thand July 30th.

No playoff games.

Teams committed to play are: Rocky Mountain, Centennial, Meridian, Mountain View, Capital and Borah

We are reaching out to you to gauge your interest level in participating in this league. This format will allow for dual participation (I.e. Idaho Cubs, Trosky etc.) This format also allows for 2020 graduating seniors to play as well. We hope to field all 3 teams, and the first right of refusal goes to the spring rostered teams. There will be a fee to play that we are currently reviewing.

Thank you.
